New England

Once I finally got a rental car, I drove to Long Island to stay the night in Montauk.  The drive was nice, but by that time I was so tired!  I got there late at night and thankfully I called ahead because the hotel office was going to be closed by the time I got there.  They told me my room number and were going to leave the keys for me.  When I finally got there a lady met me and said that when she went to leave the keys in my room, that they didn't work.  She had to call a guy to come open the door.  It was such a crazy day, but I was just so happy to be in a hotel room and be able to go to sleep.

My hotel was right on the beach, so when I woke up I went to layout and relax on the beach for awhile.    The beach there was so beautiful!

I checked out of the hotel and decided to drive to the end of Long Island to see the Montauk Point Lighthouse.  It was such a beautiful day!

Then I drove back in to town and met one of my blogging friends, Vanessa!  We had such a good time having smoothies and getting to know each other better.  Definitely one of the highlights of my trip!

After we were done, I went to the Hamptons and drove around a little.  I loved the cute little shops!

My next stop was to take the ferry over to Connecticut.  Vanessa gave me directions of the best way to go which included taking several ferrys across the islands and stopping at several cute little towns along the way.  I had never taken my car over a ferry before and it was so fun!

Once I arrived in Orient Point, I drove my car on the ferry to head to Connecticut.

The ride was so pretty and I was able to see so many cute lighthouses along the way.

I arrived in New London, CT and then set out to find Mystic, CT.

Once in Mystic, I decided that I needed to have some pizza, you know because of the movie and all.  There were some cute little shops called the Olde Mystic Village.  I walked around there for awhile and got some pizza and then went down to the Mystic Seaport to walk around down by the water.

After spending some time in Mystic, I decided to head to Newport, RI.  I had heard lots of good things about Newport and it definitely did not disappoint!  Newport was my favorite New England town. First I drove down Bellevue Avenue to look at all the historic mansions.  They were seriously amazing!

After that I found the beach and walked along the cliffs.

I went to walk around the town for a little and have dinner and listen to live music on the pier.

That night I stayed at a really cool hotel in Warwick, RI and then the next morning woke up and headed to Massachusetts.  My first stop of the day was Cape Cod.  I stopped at the Cape Cod Canal and then went to the beach.

Next up was Plymouth, MA and visiting Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II.

I then drove along the MA coast and stopped in Salem.

The trip continued with a drive up the coast and stops in Manchester by the Sea and Gloucester.  I loved the quaint little seaside towns.  In Gloucester I stopped at the Fisherman's Memorial where they filmed The Perfect Storm.

One of the things I really wanted to do was have lobster on the water in Maine.  I had never eaten lobster before and I figured if I was going to Maine, I needed to eat it there.  I found one of the best places to eat lobster on Cape Elizabeth called the Lobster Shack and ordered the lobster dinner.  When I got my dinner it was a whole lobster, which I had no idea how to eat it!  Thankfully it came with instructions!

I wish someone could have seen me try and eat this lobster!  I followed the instructions, but this green stuff squirted out everywhere when I broke off the tail, which was completely unappetizing!  By the time I ended up just getting a few bites I swear I had lobster all over me.  I found it in my hair and on my purse, haha!  If people saw me I'm sure they were laughing.  It was definitely an experience, but I'm not sure I want to eat lobster again.

If you look closely on the left you can see a couple of pieces of lobster in my hair!
After dinner, I drove around to visit some of the lighthouses in Maine before the sun went down.

Once it got dark I drove back to Boston and found my hotel for the night.  I had one more day left of vacation and I spent the whole next day exploring Boston.  More on that in my next blog.
