Christmas Recap

This Christmas was my first Christmas with Michael and we had a great time being with family and friends.  We started off spending Christmas Eve at my cousin Kourtney's house with my dad's side of the family.  Our family is so big and there are always tons of people there, but we always have so much fun.  One of my favorite things we do is an auction for a family in need.  We all bring things around the house that maybe we don't want anymore but that other people might want and then we bid on them.  All the money that we raise goes to a family that somebody knows about that is struggling and could really use the extra money.  It's so fun and I love that we get to bless others and still maybe walk away with some items that we want.

We stayed the night at my parents house on Christmas eve and opened presents there on Christmas morning.

This Christmas was Sophie's first Christmas and she loved it!  I thought she would be too little, but she loved opening her gifts and playing with them.

Our plan was to go to Michael's sisters's house, but it started snowing and the roads were kind of questionable so we decided it would be best to stay put.  It was so fun to have a white Christmas!  It doesn't snow in Texas very often and hardly ever on Christmas day!  It made for a great day.

Loved seeing the giant snowflakes
So pretty!
Maddie loved playing in the snow!

My mom's side of the family came over for Christmas dinner.  My cousin Ryan and his wife Randi are going to Thailand to be missionaries and help with the victims of human trafficking.  Instead of buying gifts for each other we all donated money to them for their trip.  They are leaving in January to go to the Phillipines for 10 weeks of training and then will be relocating to Thailand in the summer.  (If you are interested in finding out about their mininstry, go to was so meaningful to be able to support them.  We all had a great time together eating and playing games!

We had a great Christmas and it was so fun to have new babies and to celebrate mine and Michael's first Christmas together.

Hope you all had a great Christmas!

Long Lost Blogger

I've fallen off the blogging bandwagon and kind of the weight loss one too.  Things have just been so crazy busy, I'm not finding the time like I used to.  I think that I've made other things a priority, which is great, but I need to make weight loss and blogging a priority again too.  I think it's just about finding a balance and I'm not there yet.

But regardless, I am back and ready to hit it hard for the new year!

Here is a quick update on what has been going on with me.  I'll do some more detailed posts soon.

  • My house has been on the market for about a month and a half.  I've had 30 showings which I am so thankful for!  There has been 1 offer, but it fell through.  It's been a full-time job just to keep the house clean and get me and my dog Maddie out of the house when we have showings.  Hopefully it will sell soon.  The plan is to move in with my parents to save some money until the wedding and then Michael and I will buy a house together in a better location for us.
  • Wedding planning is going really good (I'll do a blog post about this soon).  We've got all of the big stuff done and now it's just down to planning little details.  I'm glad that we've been able to get so much stuff already done because I'm sure packing and moving will be taking up a lot of my time soon.
  • I haven't been doing good with working out and eating.  The good news is that I haven't really gained weight, but the bad news is that I haven't lost any.  I was thinking that the wedding would be a big motivator to stay focused on my goals, but with everything that I have going on and the holidays, it's been really hard.  I'm so ready to get back on track and do all the things I know to do to keep losing weight.
  • I've completely recovered from my surgery and I'm cleared to get back to all of my normal activities.  I had to wait 8 weeks before I could do any kind of strength training exercises.  I think that was a big factor that contributed to me getting off track, but that excuse is now gone.  I'm feeling really good and so thankful to have that behind me!
  • Michael and I enjoyed spending our first holidays together.  We were able to spend time with both of our families and had a great time together.
  • My niece Sophie is almost 5 months old.  I've been loving spending time with her and she loved her first Christmas!
  • I've caught on on reading all of your blogs that I missed from the last month.  I noticed that I have several new blog followers, so if I'm not following you, please leave me a comment with your blog name.
I think that's about it.  Can't wait to get back to blogging and losing weight!  I love the new year and the fresh start that it brings.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and enjoyed spending the holidays with your friends and families!

Sweating for the Wedding

Yesterday marked 6 weeks since my surgery so I am able to officially start working out again!  Before my surgery, I weighed in at 178.2.  This morning, I weighed in at 173.0.  So that makes a total of 5.2 pounds lost over a 6 week period.  Of course I would have liked to have lost more, but with not being able to workout and me not eating that great, I'm happy with a 5 pound loss!

So now that I'm healed from my surgery and getting ready for a wedding, I've got to get my body back to eating right and working out.  There are 170 days to try and lose as much weight as I can and get in the best shape possible.  I have 32 pounds left until I reach my goal weight and I would LOVE to do that by the wedding!  I'm just going to work as hard as I can and see what happens.  Wanting to look good on your wedding day is GREAT motivation for working as hard as possible.

I know all the things that I need to do to be successful, so I just have to get back to doing them.

Here is my game plan:

  • Workout 5 days per week (3 at the gym and 2 at home)
  • Drink at least 64oz of water
  • Track all my food
  • Stay around 1,200 calories per day
  • Take all my vitamins
  • Blog regularly
  • Pre-plan my meals

So here's to getting in shape for my wedding!  Thanks so much as always for all of your support and motivation!

Wedding Planning

So now that we got engaged, the wedding planning has begun!  Last week we started working on the wedding planning and got a lot already accomplished in one week.

We already knew where we wanted to get married, so that part was easy.  It was just a matter of finding out the dates that they had available and picking one.  We were thinking of getting married in May and the chapel had two dates available so we went with May 5th, 2013 (or as we like to celebrate in Texas, Cinco de Mayo!).  Haha!  I love celebrating Cinco de Mayo and my family is pretty much obsessed with Mexican food so it's only fitting that was the day they had open.

This wedding chapel is AMAZING!  It's called Belltower Chapel  & Garden.  Michael grew up in a children's home and this chapel is on the campus of the home and is owned and operated by ACH Child and Family Services.  All of the money that they make from having weddings there goes towards helping their organization.  We couldn't have thought of a more perfect place to get married and be able to give back in some way.  Even if Michael didn't have ties to this organization, I would still want to get married here, but it just makes it so much more special.  The guy who is the CEO of ACH is like a dad to Michael.  He took me to meet him and get a tour of the campus when we first started dating and it is such an amazing place.  Everything that they do for these children and their families is making such a difference in so many people's lives.  Dr. Carson wrote about us on his blog and the chapel posted our story on their Facebook page.

The chapel is really old and it has such a cool look.  From the stained glass windows to the old wooden pews, it's just perfect.  They also have an area for a reception either inside or outside.  So beautiful!

We've decided on the wedding party and all the colors.  I'm going with my mom and sisters on Sunday to go wedding dress shopping and pick out bridesmaids dresses.  We're thinking of something like the colors and dress in the picture below.
My cousin is a photographer and she offered to take our wedding pictures for us.  Her mom and husband are going to help as well.  That is such a huge blessing to us.  Wedding photographers are one of the most expensive parts of the wedding!  Of course you want good pictures, but I'm trying to do this wedding on a budget and I just couldn't afford the prices.  So when she told me that they wanted to do it, I was so excited!  She takes amazing pictures!  We're also going on Saturday to have our engagement pictures taken by a friend of mine.  My cousin wasn't able to do those because she is due to have her baby any day now.

I've also been talking to a friend of mine from church who is going to do our cake for us.  It will be something similar to this picture except with our color blue and our initial on the top.

And...we got our honeymoon booked!  We are going to the beautiful island of Kauai!  Neither of us have been to Hawaii before and we are so excited!  Everyone tells us that Kauai is their favorite island. If any of you guys have been there and have advice or tips, I would love to hear them!  We leave the day after our wedding and then come back the next Sunday.

So everything is coming together, there is still a lot to plan, but we're in pretty good shape!  I'm sure I will be asking for all of your help to get ideas and suggestions for different things.  This is all so fun!

Let the countdown begin...

I'm Engaged!!!

For those of you have have not seen it on Facebook yet, I'm engaged!!!

Michael asked me to marry him last Friday night and I said yes!  We couldn't be more thrilled and we're so excited to start our lives together.

Michael arranged for us to have a nice dinner together at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse.  Neither of us had ever been there and it was so good!  When we arrived they seated us in a wine room in the back and there were flowers waiting on the table.

We were there for awhile and then he told me to read the card that came with the flowers.  I didn't even think to look at that, haha!  I read the card and it said a lot of really sweet things and at the end it said, "Will you marry me?".  Then he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him and gave me the ring.  Of course I said yes!  It was so sweet and romantic!  He had everything planned out so good and everything was just perfect!

Of course we had to text all of our family and friends right away to tell them the good news!  It was such a great night and we both couldn't be happier.  I am so thankful to have Michael in my life and he is the perfect guy for me.

The next day we went to the Dallas Arboretum and enjoyed spending the day together as a newly engaged couple.  Then on Sunday we went to celebrate with our families.

It was the most perfect weekend and we can't wait to get married!
