Weekly Weigh-In #26 / 6 Month Bandiversary

This week I lost 1.2 pounds for a total loss of 57.9lbs.  I'm happy that the weight is starting to come off again and especially happy for a good loss with Thanksgiving and eating some things that I normally would not.  I got 2 workouts in this week which isn't as good as normal, but I did get some other physical activity in (like getting all the Christmas decorations up).  I was on vacation from work and all my other responsibilities this last week so it was nice to be able to get some things done and spend time with family and friends.  I feel relaxed and ready to take on a new week!

My sister Alicia brought me back this water bottle from the North Pole.  I love it and use it all the time!  She went to Alaska a couple weeks ago.  I told her to put in a good work with Santa for me while she was there, so we'll see!  ;)

Along with my weigh-in day, today is also my 6 month bandiversary!  I can't believe it's already been 6 months.  I'm so happy with my progress so far and I can't wait to see how much more progress I will make in another 6 months.

Each month I measure my neck, bicep, forearm, chest, waist, hips, thigh, and calf.  This month I lost 3 inches for a total loss of 37 inches since the beginning of my weight loss journey.

I had to get blood taken for my work insurance last week and I got the results in.  Everything looks great and all in normal ranges.  YAY!

Hope everyone has a great week!

What Do You Consider Success?

I posted a link to the Band Superstars website on my Facebook and said that they were success stories of women who had lost 100 pounds or more.  I had a friend take issue with the fact that I implied that success only comes from those who had lost that much weight.  It got me thinking about what I really consider success to be with the Lap-Band.  Of course my goal is to lose over 100 pounds and I hope to someday be on that list, but I also know that success can be defined in so many other ways.

What do you consider "success"?  Do you celebrate the smaller successes along the way or only look to the ultimate goal?

I have to admit that I am usually just focused on getting to my goal weight.  Of course I celebrate every success along the way and love sharing NSVs.  Sometimes I feel that I don't want to let myself think that anything other than getting to my goal weight is a success because I don't want to give myself the choice of not getting there.  I guess that can be good or bad.

What do you think?

Christmas Decorations Are Up!

My cousin Ryan came over and helped me get my tree up.  It's 12' tall so there is no way I can get the tree up without help.  He helped me get it up and decorate the top parts that I couldn't reach and then I got the rest finished on my own.  I LOVE all the Christmas decorations and it gets me in the Christmas spirit!  I got the rest of my Christmas shopping done this morning too, so now I can just relax and enjoy the holiday.

Thanksgiving Fun!

Me and my sister Alicia

We had Thanksgiving at my parent's house.  It was our family and my Aunt Linda's family.  We had such a great time.  We got together around 1:00 and ate lunch, then watched the Cowboys win, played dominoes and ate again for dinner!  I was kind of dreading Thanksgiving because I love all the yummy foods so much and wasn't sure how it would be since this is my first year being banded.  It actually turned out great!  I was able to eat little portions of the food and really enjoy it, but not go overboard.  And I stepped on the scale this morning and my weight was down.  Yay!  I love my lap-band!

I'm horrible at remembering to take pictures, but I did manage to get a few in the beginning.

And just for fun, here are a couple of videos with glimpses into the silliness that goes on in my family.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!!  I'm headed to my parents house to celebrate Thanksgiving with my immediate and extended family!  Can't wait to spend time with everybody and have small portions of all the yummy food!

I have so enjoyed doing the thankfulness posts and I feel like I could keep going forever!  There are definitely things that I don't like or things in my life that are negative, but choosing to be thankful and focus on the positive has been so good for me this last month.

I hope you all enjoy today with your families and remember everything in life you have to be thankful for!

I'm Thankful For...My Church

Today I am so thankful for my church.  It's more than just a place for me to go on Sundays.  It has truly become a community for me.  I have so many wonderful friendships and every week I love going.  It doesn't just feel like something that I have to check off my list.

Every week I spend about 10 hours a week here.  I volunteer once a week at the church offices and work at the little desk in the picture below.

On Saturday's I head up the check-in team for our elementary kids. I love being with the kids and getting to know the families at our church.

On Thanksgiving day, 2 years ago, my pastor had a seizure and was rushed to the hospital.  They discovered a large tumor in his brain.  They had to operate and he has gone through radiation and chemo for 18 months.  As of his scan last month, there is no visible sign of cancer!  It has really been amazing to see his family face this hardships and still say that God is good in all of it.

This is a video he did the day before brain surgery.

I am so blessed to be a part of such an amazing church and to have found a place that really feels like home.

I'm Thankful For...Music

I'm thankful for music.  I love ALL kinds of music.  If the world did not have music it would be so boring.  It's so crazy how we can hear a song and can remember a certain time in our lives or it reminds us of someone.

I have been fortunate to me involved in different kinds of music over the years.  Through church, school, professionally, and for fun.  I love to sing and express myself through song.

Music stirs worship in our souls and lets us express our emotions and feelings in ways we otherwise could not.  We can listen to music and it can instantly change our mood.

I'm Thankful For...My Health

Today I'm thankful for my health.  All my life I've been really healthy.  I've never been in the hospital or had any surgeries (except for my lap-band).  Up until this last year, I hadn't even been to the doctor since I was 12 years old other than routine check-ups.  Considering all of the extra weight I have been carrying for years, it's really amazing that I didn't have more health problems.  This last year I was having problems with different things and I really think it was weight related.  Since having the surgery, I've felt great and haven't been sick.

I know many of us struggle with health problems, but we can be thankful that we woke up today and that we are given the opportunity to take charge of our health.  By losing weight, eating good food, and exercising we are all choosing to be healthy.

Weekly Weigh-In #25

This week I lost 1.0lbs for a total loss of 56.7 since the beginning of May.  I'm glad I lost weight this week since I pretty much had stalled out the last two weeks.  I'm still going to push hard for my goal of being under 200lbs by the end of the year.

I'm spending a long weekend visiting my friend Holly and her husband Jake in Oklahoma.  We've had lots of fun and have been able to just chill too.  Yesterday Holly and I went to see Breaking Dawn.  It was fun...super cheesy, but we loved it!  On the way home we saw a lady selling Dachshund's on the side of the road.  Holly really wanted one so we decided to pull over.  They were so cute!  Holly called her husband and he agreed that they could get one.  So we've spend the rest of the weekend playing with this adorable puppy.  Her name is Dobby and she is so cute!  She loves her Aunt Andrea! :)

Tomorrow I head back home for a busy week ahead.  I'm on vacation this week, but I have a lot of stuff that I want to get done.  My cousin is going to come over on Tuesday and help me put up my 12 foot tree!  Every year I ask myself why in the world I bought a tree that tall.  It's so beautiful though.  I'll be sure to post a picture of it when we get it put up.

Goals for this week:
  • Drink at least 64 oz of water per day
  • Workout at least 3 times
  • Only allow myself to indulge for Thanksgiving dinner
  • Track all food and stay under 1400 calories
Have a great week!

I'm Thankful For...God

Today I am so thankful for God and all that He has done in my life.  I know that I would not be where I am today if not for Him.  My dad is a pastor and I grew up as a Christian, but during and after college is when it really became personal for me.

I have chosen to make God my number one priority and to live my life for him.  He has changed my life and blessed me in so many ways.  He has given me peace and a desire to help others.

Throughout this weight loss journey I have learned so much about myself and my eating and realized that I have chosen to put food as a god in my life.  I had made that my priority and instead of going to God for comfort or strength I would go to food.  I am really starting to change my thinking and view my relationship with food in a different light and choose to go to God instead of going to food.

I am so thankful for God's love, grace, and protection in my life!

I'm Thankful For...My House

I'm thankful for my house.  In 2005 my sister and I bought this house together.  When she decided to move out, I wasn't sure if I would be able to get a mortgage on my own, but everything worked out!  I was approved to buy the house and it's only in my name!  It's a great thing, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility.  I am so thankful that I have a place to call my own and as much as I want to get married some day, I was able to do it all on my own!

Many of you have wanted to see pictures of my house after seeing pictures and videos, so here is a little tour (just of the downstairs).
