Happy Halloween!


Halloween is my least favorite holiday.  Growing up we didn't celebrate halloween.  My parents didn't like what it stood for.   We had church festivals and my parents would buy us candy so we didn't feel left out, but it just wasn't something we celebrated.  As an adult, I avoid Halloween parties like the plague.  I think being overweight and a woman around Halloween is the worst.  It's hard to find a "normal" costume because all the women's costumes are "slutty" versions of whatever it is.  Even the plus size stores have really short skirts and dresses for the costumes.   Plus all the pressure of coming up with something really cool is just not fun for me along with trying to lose weight when there are sweets everywhere!  Maybe my feelings about Halloween will change as I lose more weight and/or when I have kids.  Sorry for being Debbie Downer!  But with that being said, it's still a holiday and I plan to celebrate anyway! :)

Tonight my roommates and I are going to hand out candy at my house.  It's the only time all year that all your neighbors actually come to your door and you get a chance to meet them or talk to them.  And all the kids are so excited and look so cute in their costumes!  I bought a ton of candy and I'm planning on giving every last bit of it out so I don't have any leftover.  I've successfully managed to avoid having any candy and I don't plan on having any tonight.  I bought all kinds of candy that I don't like so I won't be tempted!  We might watch some scary movies tonight too.

So I work at home and everyone on my team works virtually too and we are spread out all over the country.  Our company is having a contest for virtual employees and you have to send in your picture and there are fun prizes.  Our team decided that since we had 9 people we would all dress up as Snow White (my boss) and the 7 Dwarfs (and Prince Charming).  Of course I always think that I should be Snow White, but I let me boss do it, LOL!  My boss made all the hats, we all posed as our dwarf, and then one of my teammates and her daughter photoshopped us all together.  Here is the final result.  It was so fun and I think it turned out super cute!  I'm Sneezy, the second from the right.

Weekly Weigh-In #22

Sorry, no toes in the picture this time because I badly need a pedicure, haha!

This week I lost 2.0lbs, WOOHOO!  I definitely had a better week with my eating and working out this week, so I'm glad the number showed that.  I'm still not completely where I want to be, but I'm doing better and taking it one choice at a time.



Here are my weekly weigh-in pictures.  I compared these with the photos I took the night before surgery.  It's amazing to see the difference!

My BFF Holly was in town this weekend from Oklahoma.  We've been able to hang out several times this weekend and we've had a blast!  Friday night we went out to eat and to watch the final game of the World Series.  Sadly, the Rangers lost but it was a great series!  We went to eat at a place called Fireside Pies.  I love this restaurant!  I let myself have some pizza, but didn't go overboard.  It's nice to be able to have some self-control and still be able to eat what you want without going crazy.  Last night we met at a friends house and had a scary movie night!  It was lots of fun to just chill.  It's ben awhile since I've had a movie night and it was fun!  I didn't take any pictures.  I always forget and then wish I had taken them afterwards.  I need to get better about that!

I finally thought of a good band name.  Drumroll please....Leigh Ann.  My middle name is Leigh so that's kind of my name backwards.  Now I can blame things on her and it can't be me, right?  Haha!

This coming week is another busy one!  I like being busy and feel like I'm more productive when I am, as long as it's not overwhelming or stressful.

Here are my goals for this week -

  • Exercise at least 4 days
  • Get in all my water every day
  • Start taking my vitamins again
  • Stay under 1,400 calories every day

Vitamins...To Take Or Not???



I've seen several articles recently that question the need to take a daily multi-vitamin.  Experts are saying that we only need to take certain vitamins if we have a deficiency.

I know as lap-band patients we are encouraged to take vitamins since we don't eat as much, but should we be getting vitamins from our food?

Do you take vitamin supplements and if so what do you take?  In the beginning I was taking vitamin supplements regularly, but I have kind of slacked off.  I haven't really noticed a difference by not taking them, but if it's good for my health, I definitely want to continue.  What do y'all think?

BYOC - Blogging Edition

It's Friday and time for BYOC - Bring Your Own Crazy from the fabulous Draz!  A couple of questions we answer to get to know each other better and to give our blogging brains a break. Copy to your own blog and enjoy!
This week the questions are going to themed…as in they are all about blogging and just to throw you off – there are more than 5 this time!! 


1. When did you begin blogging? Do you plan to do it a long time or do you think you’ll stop after a while? 

I started blogging at the beginning of June this year.  I'm not sure.  I plan to do it for a long time.  I love the accountability and support that I receive so at this point I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

2.  What do you enjoy more - blogging yourself or reading other’s blogs?

I think I enjoy reading other's blogs more.  I'm not naturally a writer, so it's hard for me to come up with things to talk about, but I wanted to document my weight loss journey.  Looking back, I know I will be happy that I have it documented.

3.  What’s the biggest thing blogging has taught you? Biggest surprise about blogging?

To be open and honest with my life and where I am with my weight loss and that it's ok to be and people will still love you!  My biggest surprise was all the wonderful ladies in the blogging community!  I really started this just for me, but to have met all these wonderful people and receive such amazing support was a huge surprise!

4.  Have you met any other bloggers in real life – solely because of your blog or theirs?

I've met Alicia (she's my sister, haha) Ronnie, Dawnya, Beth Ann, Debi and I hope to meet a couple more next month!

5.  Does your blog have a general theme as in one topic or do you cover everything and anything?

Mostly it's about weight loss, fitness, and my experiences with the lap-band.  I do throw in some personal stuff too.

6.  Are you public or anonymous? Whichever you are – do you ever wish you were the other?

I guess I would say public.  I try not to advertise my last name, just because of creepers on the internet, but I wouldn't care if people I know found my blog.  I don't advertise it to friends or family, but if they asked I would let them know.

7.  What’s your best blogging advice for a new blogger?

Turn off word verification, haha!  I guess it would be to be really honest with where you are.  Share the good and the bad.  My pastor always says that it's okay to not be okay, but it's not okay to stay there.  That's how I feel with weight loss and sharing our struggles.  We all experience bad days and it's good to share them, but we have to pick ourselves up and start working hard again.  Okay off my soapbox now...

8.  Does anyone in your real life read your blog/know it’s address? Do you wish they would or wouldn’t?

Both of my sisters and my best friend have my blog address.  I told my mom about it, but she didn't ask for the address so I didn't give it to her.  I might give it to my grandmother, because I know she would like to read it.  And of course the other bloggers I've met and know if real life. 

9.  Do you enjoy blogging or do you view it as a chore? How often do you blog?

I enjoy it for the most part, but sometimes it can be a chore.  I promised myself that I would blog at least once a week to document my weekly weight loss, but I try to blog more than that. 

10.  Do you tell people in your real life that you blog? Or keep it a secret?

It's come up a couple times in conversation, but I don't really talk about it that much.

5 Month Bandiversary


Today is my five month bandiversary!  This has been a great month!  I weighed myself this morning and as of today I have lost 55 pounds!  It's meant to be.  Haha!

It seems like after I came back from vacation, I've had a hard time getting back into my routine of good eating habits.  I let myself slack some while I was out of town and it seems like it's been harder to get back into the swing of things.  I've still been losing weight and haven't been going crazy, but I need to start eating some more nutritious foods.  

I've noticed more changes in activities that I've been able to do.  Just simple things that I would have a hard time doing or get all sweaty are easy for me now.  My clothes are getting looser and looser.  It's so fun to see the changes in your body and just your health in general.  

I'm still at the same fill level that I've been for a couple months (6cc's in my 10cc band).  For now, I think that's a good level for me, but we'll just take it week by week and see how it goes. 

I also gained the added support of having my sister going through the lap-band journey with me.  I couldn't be more excited for her and it's nice to have the extra accountability and support, in addition to the amazing community that is here on the blogs!

Measurements
Each month I measure my neck, bicep, forearm, chest, waist, hips, thigh, and calf.  This month I lost 5.25 inches for a total loss of 34 inches since the beginning of my weight loss journey.  

My BMI has gone from 47 to 37!  YAY!

I couldn't be more excited to see how far I've come and can't wait to keep losing pounds and inches!!!

Thanks for all the love for my sister, Alicia!  Today is actually her birthday so I'm sure you all made it a really good one for her!

I did better with my eating this weekend, even with all the parties.  I'm excited to get back into a good routine with my eating and working out this week.

In light of setting priorities and making good choices, I saw this quote and thought it was good motivation for the week.

Weekly Weigh-In #21



This week I lost .6 pounds for a total loss of 53.3 pounds.  So, I am always happy with a loss, but I know I could have done better this week.  There are some weeks where I don't have the greatest loss, but know I did everything that I could, but not this week.  I know I could have worked out more (I only went to the gym 2 times this week) or I could have eaten better.  I'm so happy with where I am and normally during weeks that are this busy and stressful I would have completely gone off the deep end with my eating.  I'm happy that I didn't and did still manage to get in two workouts, but next week I'm really going to step up my game and get back to basics.

I took my weekly weigh-in pictures this week and realized I was wearing the same shirt 4 months ago.  So I decided to compare those pictures and it's really amazing to see how far I've come in 4 months!


This week I struggled with a hard decision.  A year and a half ago I got my real estate license.  My mom owns a real estate company and so I decided to work part-time for her.  I thought it would be nice to make some extra money on the side.  My sister was moving out and I was looking for roommates and thought it would be nice to have some extra income if I went awhile without roommates.  I've really enjoyed doing real estate, but I've paid WAY more than I've made.  I just don't have the time it takes to put into it to really make money.  I already have a full-time job.  Although I enjoy helping friends and family, it's gotten to be too much and I'm really not making any money.  So after much thought, I decided to put my license into an inactive state.  I can always renew it and not have to take the state boards again, but I will have to pay around $700 to get all my memberships active again.  I guess it would be worth it if I had a client that would for sure use me because I would still make a pretty good profit, but for now I think this is the right decision.  So I had to take care of canceling and making all of those changes this week.

My full-time job has been really busy!  I'm working on a huge project and things probably won't slow down until the end of January.  I enjoy being busy though and I feel like I'm more productive when I'm busy.

Other than that, things have been going really good.  I'm super happy with where I am in life and on my weight loss journey.  I feel like I'm just about at the right fill level and things are going good.

Since I didn't do so hot on my goals last week, I'm posting them again this week.  I'm going to really focus on them.

  • Track all my food (even if it's bad). 
  • Workout at least 3 times this week
  • Drink more water

New Car!

One of the things that kept me so busy this week was getting a new car. My brother works at a Honda dealership so he got me a really good deal and I love it. Yay!

I Suck at Blogging

It's been another crazy week.  I've had several things that I've wanted to post this week, but haven't been able to find the time.  I'm so behind on reading everyone's blogs.  I think I have 140 unread posts in my reader.  I'll catch up with everyone this weekend and do a weekly weigh-in post.

Weekly Weigh-In # 20


This week I lost 1.6 pounds, for a total loss of 52.7 pounds.  I have to confess that I was a little surprised with my loss this week because I didn't make the best food choices.  I don't think I went overboard, but I had things that I don't normally allow myself to eat several days this week.  I think before I was banded, I probably would have "fallen off the wagon" this week and gone back to my old eating habits.  But I really feel that the band helped to keep me in check and not go overboard.  I ate some things that I enjoy but because of the band I didn't go crazy.  I think I just need to find a balance of letting myself eat some of the food that I really like, but not doing it all the time.  I'm still learning, but I know I've come a long way since earlier this year.  I did manage to get in a couple workouts this week so I think that helped with the weight loss.



Last night I had some friends over to watch the Ranger's game.  It was so fun watching them win and now we're going to the WORLD SERIES!!!  YAY!  This was me showing my Texas pride after the game.  Haha...it was late and I was excited.


Thank you all so much for the well wishes for my sister!  She is staying at my parent's house right now and is doing great!  She's actually doing better than I did after surgery.  I'm really excited for her and I know she will do great!

Also the conference went great!  We had over 700 ladies there and everything went really smoothly.  

After my crazy week, it was so nice to be able to sleep in this morning and just be lazy today.  Well, that is until 4:00 when we're having friends over to the house.

My 50 pounds lost present came in the mail on Friday.  I got myself the new iPhone 4S phone.  I love it!  

So my goals for this week are:
  • Track all my food (even if it's bad).  I have not been doing this and I really need to start back.
  • Workout at least 3 times this week
  • Drink more water

And my ultimate short-term goal is:
ONERLAND BY THE END OF THE YEAR!!!
I've posted my weekly YouTube video below.  It says a lot of the same things I said in my blog.  It was late and I was so tired so my thoughts were kind of all over the place.

Busy Week

Quick update - This week has been crazy busy!  I've had so many things day and night.  I like being busy though and I've managed to get in some workouts between the craziness.

On Monday I got to see the lovely Beth and Debi at support group.  I'm always encouraged and motivated after group.  If you have one in your town I would encourage you to go!  Of course the support on the blogs is AMAZING, but it's nice to be around others in person too.  Beth and I had a good time keeping up with the Rangers game in the back!

Speaking of the Rangers, they are one game away from being in the World Series!  So excited!  Hopefully they'll seal the deal Saturday night!  GO RANGERS!!!


My sister (the one in the middle in the photo below) is having Lap-Band surgery in the morning!  I am so excited for her!!!  I'm going to go with her in the morning.  She was scheduled to be there at 6:30, but they moved it back to 9:30 so that means I can sleep in a little more! :)  She is being banded by Dr. Marsden, the same doctor I went to.  He is so great and I know he will do a great job.  I'm going to try and get her to start blogging too.

My church is having a Women's Conference this weekend and I am over registration at the conference. We have over 700 women registered.  I know it will be a great event, but tomorrow will be kind of crazy with my sister's surgery and overseeing the registration in the afternoon/evening.

Weekly Weigh-In # 17, 18 and 19 / 4 Month Bandiversary


This week's weigh-in post is a little confusing.  It includes three weeks of numbers.  I weighed myself the day before I left on vacation.  I didn't have time to post about it and honestly I was a little disappointed because my weight had stayed the same from the week before.  So week #17 I weighed in at 216.8.  

Then I was on vacation for 10 days and waited to weigh until my normal weigh-in day (Friday).  I was honestly a little nervous about what my weight would be after being on vacation so long.  I would have been happy as long as I didn't gain weight.  But to my surprise I had lost 2.6 pounds in 2 weeks while being on vacation!!!  I was soooo thrilled with that!  That averages to 1.3 pounds per week.  I was just hoping not to gain, so losing that much made me so happy!  I didn't eat great while I was on vacation, but I didn't eat horribly either.  I stayed pretty active so I'm guessing that contributed to my weight loss.  Whatever it was, I'll take it!  


So with the weight I lost from this week that makes a total of 51.1 pounds lost!  I couldn't be happier with my progress so far and I'm going to keep working as hard as possible to get to my goal weight!  I bought myself a present for hitting my 50 pound goal so as soon as it comes in, I'll post about it.  My next goal is to get under 200 pounds before the end of the year.  I think it's completely achievable and I'm so excited to get to "onederland".  That gives me 12 weeks to lose 15 pounds.





Also, while I was gone on vacation I had my four month bandiversary.  I'm still so happy with my band and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Vacation - Part 3 of 3 (Naples, Florida)

The final part of my vacation was spent in Naples, FL.  My best friend lives there and I was able to extend my layover in Miami to spend time with her.  I was so glad it worked out for free!  In January, I had gone to visit her and I didn't think I would be able to go again this year because of my Honduras trip, but it all worked out and I was so happy!  My friend Angela and I went to college together and were roommates for 5 years afterwards.  It's always so fun spending time with her and we can just talk about anything.  I am more real with her than anyone else.

I arrived in Miami on Friday evening and after spending two hours in lines for immigration, customs, and a rental car, I was finally on my way.  Naples is on the west coast of Florida and is about 2 hours from Miami.

We were able to do so much in a short amount of time.  We went to the beach 3 nights to watch the sunset, spent time on the beach during the day, went shopping, out to eat, watched football, spent time on the golf course and much more.  Angela is a hair stylist so she also cut and colored my hair for me!  We had such a good time!  It was so fun just being with each other.

I had a fabulous vacation and it was just the right amount of time.  I'm definitely happy to be back home and get back into my routine, but it was one of the best vacations I've had in a long time!

Vacation - Part 2 of 3 (Tegucigalpa, Honduras)

After our time in Roatán was over, we flew back to Tegucigalpa where my sister lives.  After a long day of traveling we came back to her house and they had arranged for a masseuse to come to the house and give us massages.  It was amazing!  I put on Adele's album and it was a cool, rainy afternoon.  Just perfect!

The next day we spent time where my sister works.  She works for an organization called Hope for Honduras.  They work in some of the poorest areas of Tegucigalpa with refugees from Hurricane Mitch who have built homes up in the mountains.  They live in these tiny houses.  Some that do not have electricity or plumbing.  You have to drive on these crazy dirt/rock roads to get up there.  To the people down in the city, those people do not even exist.  Some friends of our family started the organization and my sister lives with them.  She assists them with their daily tasks and helps coordinate all the teams that go down there from different churches in the summer.  The built a center in Magote where they have a school, they feed people in the streets every day, a clinic where a doctor sees patients for next to nothing, build houes, and many other things.  It's amazing to see the difference they have been able to make in these people's lives.  They all know and love my sister!  She is pretty much the tallest and whitest person they have ever seen!  Haha!

So that day she was able to show me around where she works, introduce me to some of the people and children she works with, and then we went to help feed the kids in the streets. It was such an amazing experience!  It was funny because two of the boys who came for food were crying and some of the guys carrying the food told us they were crying because they were scared of us and had never seen white people before!  Crazy!

Later that afternoon we drove to the Valley of the Angels to see the beautiful scenery and do some shopping.  We stopped on the side of the road along the way and took these pictures.



That evening was my last night in Honduras.  We went to this really fancy restaurant at the top of the mountain with an amazing view of the city.  As we were eating, a cloud floated by and blacked out our entire view.  It was really cool to see.  


I already miss my sister so much, but I'm so happy I was able to spend time with her and see where she lives and works.

I left Honduras and then spent the weekend with my best friend in Naples, FL.  Final vacation (and weekly weigh-in) post to come.
