Weekly Weigh-In #14

This week I lost 2 pounds for a total of 45.5 pounds lost since the beginning of April and 26.8 since surgery on May 27th.  I'm super excited because I am now in the "2 teens" and my BMI is now at 38.  That puts me in the just obese category and not morbidly obese!!!  I couldn't be more thrilled with how things are going.  I'm definitely working hard at it, but it's paying off!

I had a couple NSV's this week.  1) I went to get a massage.  Now this might not seem like a big deal for some, but for me it is!  I used to love getting massages, but I had stopped in the last couple of years because I was embarrassed of the way my body looked and just thought it would be awkward for a stranger to be rubbing on me and we would both be uncomfortable.  Well not anymore!  I still have a long way to go, but I feel good about myself and I'm not letting my body stop me from doing things anymore!!!  2) I looked down yesterday and just saw my boobs!  I didn't see my stomach sticking out past them!  Yay!!!

These last few weeks have been so crazy and this month is going to get even worse!  I'm in my BFFs wedding next weekend out of town so next week is all filled up with fun wedding stuff!  Then I leave on the 24th for 10 days to go visit my sister in Honduras and then my best friend in South Florida!  I'm can't wait for all of these things, September is going to be a great month!  I'll be sure to update and post lots of pictures!

I found out something interesting this week when I went with a friend to a lap-band consultation with my doctor.  Two different people there told us that they've found it's now okay to drink while you are eating.  This is news to me and must have changed in the last couple of months.  I was originally told that you shouldn't drink while eating because it will help push the food through the band and you won't get the full feeling.  What my doctor and a PA there said was that your food only stays in your upper pouch for 45 seconds to a minute and that drinking between bites is not going to make a difference.  Have any of you heard this?  Not sure how I feel about it, but I would LOVE to start drinking more while I am eating.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and for those in the U.S., Happy Labor Day!  Enjoy the long weekend!

  6. Great job on the loss Andrea! As for drinking...I have been told by my surgeon that I have to wait 20-30 mins before I can drink anything - because of what you stated...that it would wash away the food out of my pouch. Keep me posted on your friend!

ps...my surgeon is a HUGE believer in DON'T DRINK WHILE EATING! It's one of his biggest gripes!

  10. Great loss! I have heard the same thing about drinking when eating from my nutritionist but I find that unless I only take small sips the liquid starts backing up on me so it's easier to just wait to drink...

  11. You are doing a great job. I love it. You look gorgeous.

When I had a fill last week, I was saying how I wait before drinking. I was told by the PA that it's ok to take small sips while eating. I was shocked.

Please be safe in your travels and have a great time.

  12. Great progress and September sounds like a fun month!

My doc has also alluded to it being OK to drink with meals. However, I find that if I do, I'm more likely to get stuck, so I don't.
