2011 Wrap-Up

Wow, what a year 2011 has been!  I made the decision to take control of my health by having lap-band surgery and for me that was the best decision I could have made.

I started off 2011 really sick.  I got strep throat 3 times and was having a lot of headaches and feeling nauseated all the time.  Other than being really low on vitamin D, they couldn't find anything wrong.  I truly believe that a lot of the health problems that I was having were weight related and from not getting any exercise or proper nutrition.  Since losing weight I haven't been sick much at all!

In 2011 I was in 2 friends weddings and traveled to Florida (twice) and Honduras.  I had lots of fun and am looking forward to traveling even more now that my weight is not holding me back.

This was also a hard year for my family.  I lost my Aunt Joyce on my dad's side of the family and my Uncle Russ on my mom's side.  Through it all, I can say that God is still good and it makes me cherish my time with my family even more!

I got a new car, new roommates and braces.

All in all, 2011 was a good year!  But I am most happy about losing 60 pounds and feeling so much better!

Looking forward to what 2012 will bring!

And My Secret Bandit Is...

I got my final secret bandit gift in the mail today and found out that Brandi is my secret bandit.  She sent the package 3 weeks ago, but there was a mix-up with the zip code and it just now got here.  I've loved having Brandi as my secret bandit and every gift she sent me was so thoughtful!

This month she sent a pedicure kit with house shoes, foot scrub, lotion, and tools.  It is sooo cute and I love giving myself pedicures (I'm too cheap to pay for them)!  Now my feet can look pretty in all my weekly weigh-in pictures. :)

Weekly Weigh-In #30

My weigh-in post this week is super late, but I promised myself that I will post about my weight every week even if I am busy or if I'm not happy with the here it is.

This week (on Christmas) I weighed in at 202.2 for a loss of 0lbs.  Obviously I wanted to lose more and be closer to under 200 pounds, but I'm happy I didn't gain.  This last week was hard with the funeral and Christmas celebrations.  I didn't eat horrible, but I definitely didn't make the best food choices and didn't workout like I normally do.  It's hard for me when I'm out of my normal routine.    But this week will be better and even if I don't make my goal of under 200 by New Years, I will get there soon!

Word for 2012

1. Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement.
2. Controlled behavior resulting from disciplinary training; self-control.

My word for 2012 is discipline.  I feel like I've made great strides this year with my eating and exercise, but I really want to focus on being disciplined.  Not only do I want to be disciplined in my body, but also in my mind and spirit.  The more I practice self-control and make good choices, hopefully the easier it will become.  I really want to make this a lifestyle change and not just a diet for a year, get to goal, and then go back to the way I was eating before.  This year I'm really going to focus on being disciplined in every area of my life.  We may not always feel like making good food choices or working out, but it produces good results in the end.

What are you focusing on for 2012?

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. - Hebrews 12:11

Christmas Celebrations

We had such a great Christmas this year.  Even with losing loved ones and missing them during the holidays we all managed to have a good time and enjoyed being with each other even more.

Christmas Eve we went to my cousin Kourtney's house with my Dad's side of the family.  We ate lots of good food and had fun catching up with each other.

Me and my sister Annalie
Uncle Robert and my cousin Kristi
My cousin Debbie and her son Brandon and daughter-in-law Karen
My sister Alicia, me and my brother Austin
My cousins and my Aunt Shirley
Cousins Brian and David
My cousin Melody,  her husband Brian and their daughter Brenna
My cousins Lauren and Kami
My cousins mother-in-law visiting from Canada, my sister Annalie and my Grandmother
Cousins Kristi and Kourtney
My cousin Melody and Aunt Mary

Instead of presents this year, we decided to do an auction to raise money for my sister's mission work in Honduras.  Everyone brought items from around their house that they didn't want anymore, but that someone else might and we auctioned them off.  My brother Austin was the auctioneer and we raised over $400!  It was so fun!  We were able to leave with items that we wanted and know that our money was going to a good cause.

All my brothers and sisters spent the night at my parents house on Christmas Eve and woke up Christmas morning to open presents and our stockings!

I loved all the presents that I got from everyone and it was so fun to give them gifts too!  Here are pictures of the loot!

Scarf from Adam, t-shirt, shoes, and purse from Alicia, candlesticks and gloves from Annalie, jewelry form Mom and Dad
Close-up of the jewelry.  I really wanted rose gold this year and I love it!
Trench coat from Austin and jewelry box from Mom and Dad
Maddie loves her Christmas present too!
And the big present from Mom and Dad...a new elliptical!

I'm so thankful for all of my presents and I love them so much!  The elliptical machine is awesome and I can't wait to start using it!  My dad, brother Adam and sister Annalie helped me bring it home yesterday and get it setup.  We had to rearrange some furniture in my room, but we were able to get it to fit and setup on the side of my bed in front of the tv.  I'm so excited!  I never thought I would be this excited to workout!  Haha!

For Christmas dinner my Aunt Linda and cousins came over.  We ate dinner and played Texas 42. It was so fun and we had a really great time considering the circumstances.

Christmas Eve Gift

We have a tradition in my family where on Christmas Eve the first person to say "Christmas Eve Gift" when talking to another family member has to give them an extra gift on Christmas Eve.  It's always so fun and I'm not sure I've actually ever received the gift part of it, but we try to beat each other saying it.  Before cell phones and technology it was a lot easier to get the other person, but when caller ID came out the other person would answer the phone "Christmas Eve Gift" so they could say it before you did.  As fun as this game is, we all know that gifts are not what Christmas is really all about.  Being with the ones you love and celebrating the birth of Jesus is truly why we celebrate.  This has been a hard year for both sides of my family losing my uncle on one side and my aunt on the other.  But that gives us all the more reason to enjoy being together and celebrate what really matters.  We know that we will see them again in heaven and that God is still good and that's the most important thing.  In that we have a reason to still be joyful and celebrate!

Christmas is my favorite time of year!  I love all the decorations, the traditions, and being with friends and family.  Something about the season makes me so excited and joyful.  Last night my little sister came over and spent the night.  We did some last minute shopping and had fun spending time together.

This afternoon we are going to my church for a Christmas Eve service and then spending Christmas Eve with my dad's side of the family.  We usually have a gift exchange, but one of my aunt's came of with the idea of brining things from around your house that are nice but maybe you don't want anymore and having an auction.  That way you can bid on the items that you want and spend as much or as little as you can and then all the money will go to my sister Annalie for missions in Honduras.  I think that is such a great idea!  You can still go home with something that you like and then all your money goes to a good cause!  So excited about that.

After Christmas Eve with my dad's family, all my brothers and sisters go to my parents house and spend the night.  When we wake up on Christmas morning we open our gifts and have a big Christmas breakfast.  Then my mom's side of the family is coming over for Christmas dinner.  I am so looking forward to these next couple of days!

Take some extra time to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and cherish your time together.  Merry Christmas!

Weekly Weigh-In #29

This week I weighed in at 202.2 for a total loss of 2.6lbs!  I was so happy with my loss this week and I really worked hard for it!  I worked out harder in the gym and added a more exercise than I normally do.  Unfortunately since Sunday my weight has gone up and it's been staying more around 204, so I'm hoping it will go down by next Sunday.  Last week I did good, this week not so much!  But now that everything with the funeral is over, I'm going to get back into my routine of eating right and working out (well at least until Saturday)!  I'm still going to try and work really hard to get under 200 by the end of the year.

What a Week!

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you all for the sweet comments, texts, phone calls.  I so appreciate all your prayers and support for me and my family!  I like to respond to everyone individually, but I haven't had a spare second this week.  Please know how much I appreciate each and every one of you!

This last week has been a whirlwind and I feel like I am just now coming up for air.  Every night (and sometimes during the days too) I've been over at my aunt's house helping with stuff for my uncle's memorial service.  My cousins asked me if I would help make a slide show for the service so it took me forever to work on that!  We had to go through all the pictures and decide which ones to use, then get them all scanned into the computer and make the slide show and put it to music.  It sounds easy, but I worked on it for 4 days straight.  I'm really happy I did it though.  It's such a great memory for everyone to have and after the service everyone was saying how much they loved it.

I was supposed to be on vacation from work this week too, but we have so much going on right now there was no way that I could take off.  Needless to say it's been a really hard week.    In the midst of it all we've had fun spending time with family and remembering my uncle.  My cousins are huge jokesters and even in the midst of losing their dad they still managed to make us all laugh.

My Grandmother's birthday was the day after my uncle died and we had planned a long time ago to go out to eat for her birthday.  We were planning on not going because everything that was going on, but my aunt insisted and said it would help keep her mind off of things.  We ended up having dinner at her house because she had so much food that people had brought over for them.  I'm so glad we still got together and celebrated my Grandmother's birthday even though it was a hard time for everyone.  It's good to just be together.

Here are some pictures from her celebration...

The memorial service went so good.  There were so many people there and it was amazing to see how many lives he has touched.  My uncle was an auto mechanic and then later worked in the HVAC field. He was always willing to help his friends and family with their cars or ACs and was such a good man.  Both of my cousins (his sons) spoke at the service and they did such a good job!  My cousin Ryan also wrote a song for his dad and he sang it with his wife Randi while she played the guitar.  It was so good!  So many people said that was the best funeral they had ever been to.  I'm glad it turned out so good and was really a celebration of his life.

Here is a picture of my brothers and sisters from the service.

Also here is the slide show I did for the service if anyone is interested in watching it.

On the weight loss front, I had a good weigh-in this week (although my weight has been up since then, boo!).  I still need to do my weekly weigh-in post!  I also realized that in my pictures from yesterday that I had on the same jacket I wore last Christmas and could notice a big difference.  It's so fun because I actually enjoy seeing myself in pictures now and don't cringe when I see them.

Hope everyone is having a great week and all ready for Christmas!
